Edgar Leciejewski – (1977), Berlin
Born in Berlin in 1977 and now based in Leipzig, the photographer, Edgar Leciejewski, is renowned for blending every day and cultural-historical motifs with material experimentation. By incorporating found objects, his work construct layered visual narratives that challenge perceptions of symbolism, time and photographic representation. His series Scene in a Library and (Leerzeichen einfügen) Fabric Pictures exemplifies this approach, staging familiar motifs – such as fire and eggs – with striking intensity. Leciejewski pushes the conventions of photography by integrating real materials, creating a fusion of image and object that evokes a kind of augmented reality. This interplay between the mundane and the mysterious, rendered through the visual language and materiality of contemporary photography, invites viewers to reconsider context and meaning.
Edgar Leciejewski studied Theatre Studies, Philosophy, and Art History at the Free University of Berlin from 2001 to 2003 before shifting his focus to photography. From 2003 to 2009, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig, earning his diploma in Fine Arts. He completed his Meisterschüler degree in 2011.
Leciejewski has exhibited his works around the world, and has shown his work at Witte de With, Rotterdam, Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna, Zabludowicz Collection, London, Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt am Main, Scrap Metal Gallery, Toronto, Canada as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art Krakow, Poland.
