Born in 1982 in Bilbao, Spain, Estefanía Martin Sáenz is celebrated for her ability to transpose ornamental patterns into intricate visual stories through drawing, embroidery and painting, exploring themes of femininity, fantasy and cultural symbolism. In 2024, she launched a new project centered around the iconic toile de jouy fabric. Her latest series, Todo Sigue Ocurriendo (Everything Is Still Happening), explores how an unassuming, repetitive pattern can generate a world of fantasy and symbolism. Through embroidery, drawing and painting, Martín Sáenz crafts a universe where reality and imagination intertwine. Figures clad in pagan-inspired costumes recall her earlier series Máscaras (Masks), Ritos Paganos (Pagan Rituals) and Akelarre (Witches’ Sabbath), only to dissolve or transform into contemporary forms like machinery and gymnasts. In her world, anything is possible – playing with conventions becomes an act of rebellion, ultimately realigning the boundaries between art and reality.

Estefanía Martin Sáenz got a degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where she studied from 2001 to 2006. She has been featured in numerous international exhibitions including Context Art Miami, Museu da Carris, Lisbon, Today Art Museum, Beijing and Supersticiones y Manipulaciones, XIII Bienal Martínez Guerricabeitia, Valencia.
