After graduating in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid in 2015 and completing a Master of Research in Art and Creation in 2017, Sandra Val participated in a number of residencies, including with the CCECR, Plataforma Caníbal, Building Bridges Art Exchange, Network of Centers Arthouse Spain and MAV in 2020. She received an artistic production scholarship from the Women in the Visual Arts Biennial 2022 and Ceramic Res artistic residency from Co-net Art in 2022. She was selected for the Manises International Ceramics Biennial 2022 and the Korean International Ceramics Biennial 2021. Her work has been exhibited in the Barjola Museum of Gijón, C.A.V. Neomudéjar Museum of Madrid and the Gyeonggi Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art in Korea, among many others. Using ceramics, textiles, metals and glass she creates works that juxtapose the familiar with the alien and unsettling. These unique constructions refer to traditional architectural elements or places of worship and power. Often mined from the artist’s past, they conjure up and create new stories and dialogues, revealing unspoken insights about time and space.
